About This Item

New York: Dodd, Mead & Co., 1974. First Printing, First U.S. Edition. . Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. Innes' Sir John Appleby, featured in many of the author's past mysteries, is retired now from his post as Metropolitan Police Commissioner, but is tempted to return to deal with a case involving stolen art, a murdered man of wealth and a plethora of suspects, including the man's wife, who is having an affair with an eminent surgeon; the rich man's mistress, who is bedding his nephew; his son, his secretary, a house guest who's a shady art dealer and a Miss Kentwell, who claims to be representing charitable organizations. Remainder dots on top and bottom edges of text, o/w boards and text are clean, tight, with a slight spine lean; the dustjacket is tattered with somewhat large chips missing from the back panel and the top of the spine, as well as considerable surface and edgewear. That said, the dj is about 85 percent whole and not missing anything of significence. A quite decent reading copy.
