The author, French theologian and philosopher Antoine Arnauld (1612-1694), was living in the Netherlands when wrote this book in response to the panic caused by the claims that English Catholics were plotting to kill King Charles II. In Good+ Condition: leather is splitting at joints, but boards are attached; minor loss of leather at head of spine; corners rubbed with loss of leather; boards are rubbed; back board slightly discolored; 8-cm. tear from top edge of pp. 9-10, without loss; minor dampstaining along page edges of first few leaves; occasional foxing and light staining; otherwise clean and tight.
