Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott , 1925. Second Edition, Revised, Enlarged, Reset Cloth Very Good 8vo (6-1/2 x 8-3/4), 753 pp in 2 Volumes, including Index in Volume II. Blue Clothbound books with gilt Title and Author on spine and gilt skull on cover with the words "Piltdown Fragments," no DJ. Books are both VG. Some staining on cover of Volume II but interior is clean and unmarked other than original owner's name written inside front cover of each volume. Pages all firmly attached, despite book falling open naturally between some signature. Front and Back flyleafs of both volumes tanned, and some foxing on inside back cover of volume II. This work was written and published, then revised, prior to learning that the Piltdown man was a hoax, human skull with ape's jawbone, most likely perpetrated by Arthur Conan Doyle and Teilhard de Chiardin. The similarity of the "secret" map in Doyle's "Lost World" and the site of supposed discovery are identical. But despite that, the descriptions of the process of archaeo-anthropology and human types tell the story of the evolution of archaeo-anthropology.
