About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. The Antiquities of the Jews or Judean Antiquity comprises 20 volumes of historical texts by Jewish historian Flavius Josephus in the 13th year of the regime of Flavius Domitian, the Roman Emperor at that time. The work consists of the history of the Jewish people which was written in Greek for Josephus? heathen advocates.

The first ten volumes, the author brought up the events of the historical books of the Hebrew Bible starting with the creation of the world with Adam and Eve as the first ancestors on Earth. The next ten volumes connote the history of the Jewish people beyond the biblical passages and up to the Jewish War. This work and with his other lengthy work, The Jewish War (De Bello ludaico), delivers worthy historical reference to historians who wants to fully understand 1st century A. D. Judaism and the early Christian period.

Josephus removed certain Jewish narrative, for example, the Song of the Sea which is a sung by Moses and the people of Israel after surviving their encounter at the Red Sea. The important characters of the biblical stories are presented as ideal philosophers and leaders because of their principles and virtues. He also removed the whole part of the golden calf being praised by the Israelites at Mount Sinai while Moses was away to complete God?s orders to all His people. Josephus was scared that these biblical stories might be enlisted by Alexandrians and lead them to false belief that the Jews praised a worthless god at the Temple.

Flavius Josephus or Joseph ben Mattathias in Jerusalem of a priestly and regal family studied Jewish law with flourish and studied with the Sadducees, Pharisees, focusing on Essenes with the Pharisees. He freed some imprisoned priests in Rome.

Although, Josephus had profound doubts against the revolt, it became unavoidable that the Romans gave rise to the Jewish movements.
