Copy engraving after Goltzius´. Clio is the muse of history, sitting on a rock with a quill in her hand and on the other a board on which she is writing. Other books are lying on the ground to the right. This print belongs to the whole set of nine muse engraved and published by Claes Jansz. Visscher in Amsterdam before 1652. Signed on the bottom:´HG invent´ (Hg monogrammed) ´CJVisscher Excud´ (CJV monogrammed); two lines of text in Latin at the very bottom: ´Gesta ducum ... extentit in Aeuum / 4´. Engraving on paper with some margin; plate mark: 244 x 167 mm; total: 278 x 183 mm; some dirt within plate and external margins repaired; New Hollstein 132 (d)
