About This Item

New York, New York: Simon and Schuster, 1962. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good+/Good. Holiday, Henry. Editor Martin Gardner (who annotated Carroll's "Alice" books) here offers his own "startling 20th-century interpretation" of "The Hunting of the Snark,'' a "delightful excursion into the mysteries of the creative imagination." In 111 pages with decorative endpapers & all internal lithographed illustrations by Henry Holiday, as originally published in the 1874 edition of the poem. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1962, this hardcover small quarto (6" x 10.25") has quarter tan cloth lettered in dark brown to spine with paper covered boards stamped in gilt to front. Condition is VG+: very clean & bright with a few smudges to spine & rear, very mild corner bumping. Binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with just a whisper of tanning to edges, but completely unmarked. The unclipped DJ is just Good: largely complete, with significant chips to front & back top edges & smaller ones to all corners & along spine; looks lovely under the protection of a new clear mylar cover. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
