Basis for John Cromwell's 1946 film of the same name, and Walter Lang's well-loved 1956 film The King and I, starring Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr. An attractive copy of a war-time edition which went into numerous printings. First Printing. Octavo (21cm); brown cloth, with titling and decorations stamped in gilt on spine; bright yellow topstain; dustjacket; [iv],v-viii,360pp; illus. Hint of dustiness to cover, with small patch of rough erasure to upper front pastedown; Near Fine. Dustjacket is price-clipped, lightly rubbed and a little wavy, with a small tear to lower front panel, and a faint vertical crease along the rear joint; Very Good+ or better.
