About This Item
Oxford: Basil Blackwell, 1989. 1st Edition . Very Good Minus/Very Good. 6.25 x 9.25 inches (16 x 24 cm). Signed by Author. Dust jacket: Slight fading to spine and rear cover, light shelf wear. Unclipped. Preserved in a removable jacket protector. Overall jacket condition is Very Good Minus. Book: Black cloth binding. Bumping to corners, foxing to page edges, clean text throughout. From the private library of Richard Adams, author of Watership Down, with his bookplate to front pastedown endpaper. Following the publication of his hugely successful debut novel in 1972, Adams became very active in the evolving animal rights movement. He was in contact with several members of the Oxford Group, campaigned in Canada against the hunting of baby seals, and ultimately served as president of the RSPCA in 1982. Ryder was an early member of the Oxford Group who, in 1970, coined the term speciesism. He served as president of the RSPCA from 1977-1979. Included with the book is a hand written letter from Ryder to Adams. Written on headed paper, folded with a game score written to reverse (presumably by Adams - Dad vs Dog). Excellent association copy. Overall book condition is Very Good Minus. ISBN: 0631152393. Size: 6.25 x 9.25 inches (16 x 24 cm). Hardback. Printed pages: 385
