Skues fishing his favorite waters. George Edward MacKenzie Skues was the father of modern nymph fly fishing and he generously shared his knowledge with a bevy of friends - one of which was Baird Foster of New Jersey. For nearly eleven years, until Mr. Skues’s death in 1949, the two men wrote to one another frequently. Pages 118-134 in the book are devoted to some of those letters. In the included three page letter, dated September 1940, Mr. Skues nearly always addressed his correspondence to Baird Foster as "My Dear Foster". In the letter Mr. Skues discusses a fly tying vice Mr. Foster had sent him, the new du Pont nylon leader material and its practicality on English chalk streams, the curtailing of publication of some fly fishing books during the war, and the poor fishing conditions on his beloved waters - excessive weed growth and low water flows. Includes the original mailing envelope (roughly opened for inspection by British Post during wartime). The book is bound in dark green cloth with gilt titles. Pictorial dust jacket.
