Hardcover. 12mo, 18,2cm, The First Edition, xv,298,[vi]p., ads., complete with half title, double sided frontis containing 9 engraved species illustrations, rebound in half calf and marbled boards, binding is in poor condition, internally sound clean near fine condition, with the bookplate of Bertram Matthews & the bookseller ticket of "E. Chambers Hallam, Hillingdon, Middlesex, 1954" & signed "Samuel Taylor" on the free fly, as is (gar). ~ Westwood and Satchell p205 206. "I presume to think I have reduced Angling to a complete science" (dedication). Samuel Taylor (1749 1811) is best remembered as a prominent London stenographer who devised a popular system of shorthand, the manual of which went through many editions and languages.
