Blue cloth hardcover with gilt lettering to spine and front; no jacket; copyright page states first edition but the signature page states "Stockade Edition. Autographed by the author for members of the Civil War Book Club" followed by author's signature. Good plus condition: spine faded; fading to edges of boards; gilt lettering a bit rubbed; lower back corner turned in a little; straight; hinges strong; pages in excellent condition; ownership inscription inside dated 1955--Blanton Seward (a previous bookseller laid in a slip that states "Incidentally, the Blanton Seward who originally owned this book is the grand-nephew of William Seward, who was Lincoln's Secretary of State. He died last year, and I bought his entire library." New plastic protective jacket..
