Glencoe, Illinois: The Free Press, 1952 Ex-Library. Good Plus. Hardcover. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Original red cloth over boards with gilt lettering. Price-clipped dark green dustjacket has yellow decoration with green and white lettering. Translated and edited by Hans H. Gerth and Don Martindale. Dustjacket has library sticker on spine, and a large dampstain along the bottom third. It also has edgewear and tears repaired with clear tape. Bookplate indicating donor, and small library sticker inside front cover. The essays in this book originally appeared in 1917-1919 in a German periodical (the author died in 1920). The author was a sociologist, historian, and political economist, and is considered to be one of the most important theorists of the development of modern Western society. He learned Hebrew in childhood, but was not a Jew. Scarce. 484 pp. including Glossary and Index. .
