London: S. Highley, 1826. London,1826 First Edition, published by S. Highley. VERY GOOD-.The historic work by Dr. Johann Gaspar Spurzheim , translated from the unpublished French manuscript by R. Willis. With 11 copperplate engravings bound at end of book. A near very good, copy. The only marking is an owner name and date (Aug. 21/50) neatly penned on front free endpaper. Front endpapers moderately foxed, rear endpaper lightly foxed. Pages, rough cut along thumb and bottom edges, are clean and intact - no tears or chips. Pages 113-128 moderately foxed, primarily within margins. The 11 engravings are clean though lightly foxed, foxing a bit heavier to Plates X and XI. There is a circular wave to center of most text pages but no hard creasing. Book is firmly bound in paper covered boards, dark green cloth spine with paper title label on spine. Boards are lightly soiled and edgworn, top corners bumped and worn; cloth spine is moderately worn with 2" vertical tear and 1/2" chip at head of spine. The paper label is heavily rubbed and chipped, title partially obliterated. Binding and hinges firm. Boards measure 5-5/8 x 9-1/4"; xxiv + 234 text pages, 11 plates. . First Edition. Hard Cover. A facsimile reprint of the rare 1826 edition, including the original illustrations. Johann Gaspar Spurzheim (1776-1832) was a German physician who is best known as a popularizer of phrenology. Beautifully bound in gilt-decorated blue leather; all edges gilt; marbled endpapers. Black leather bookplate on front pastedown endpaper has the subscriber's name engraved and indicates that this volume is #645 of a limited edition of 1,000 copies. The book is in as-new condition. Laid in is a pamphlet of notes from the editors of "The Classics of Neurology & Neurosurgery Library" series.. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.

[11] plates illustrating the anatomy of the brain and nervous system. Publishers genuine pig skin binding in blue. Boards brass-die stamped in 22-karot gold. A.e.g. The leather bookplate of John Edmeads on front pastedown endpaper. Sporadic scratches to boards and scuffing to upper right healf of front board. Spine ends bumped. Otherwise binding stiff. Interior pages clean. In very good condition. Dr. John Edmeads [1936-2006] was a Canadian neurologist and world renowned specialist on headaches and migraines. He practiced at Sunnybrook Hospital and was an award winning lecturer at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine.
