New York: Congdon & Weed, Inc.. Near Fine in Fine dust jacket. 1983. First Edition; First Printing. Flexible covers. The extremely rare first state copy of Amphigorey Also, possibly one of the rarest Gorey collectables on the market and likely a unique signed copy. One of 6 advance copies, which was misbound in decorative paper over boards, instead of decorative cloth over board. Production was stopped, with 2 copies recalled by the publisher and 4 apparently circulated before being recalled. This rare first state is described in a 1983 Gotham Book Mart catalogue and it is not noted in Toledano. Making this copy even more rare is it is an important association copy signed by Gorey. Signed; "For Andreas this rare incorrect first state - Edward Gorey". Likely given to Andreas Brown the late owner of the legendary Manhattan bookstore, the Gotham Book Mart. The store holds a unique place in publishing history and many important authors and celebrities had close association with the shop, including Capote, Ginsberg, Joyce, Salinger, Updike and celebrities like Warhol, Charlie Chaplin, Woody Allen and Hepburn. Edward Gorey also had a close working relationship with the Gotham Book Mart, which was the premium location for Gorey's work and they often released catalogues dedicated to his work. This book was acquired at an auction of old Gotham Book Mart material, which reinforcing the provenance of the copy. The book is in about NF condition. It has what looks like a coffee stain on the front cover. Some chipping to corner of the top back cover. Small smudge on the bottom of the signed title page. Book is otherwise internally clean, square. A fine dust jacket with only minor edgewear with a protective mylar cover. A truly unique Gorey collectible. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; Signed by Author .

Description:
New York: The Limited Editions Club. Near Fine. 1995. Limited Edition. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Revelation was written at the height of Christians prosecution by the Romans and the book as inspired many past literary masterpieces by the likes of Dante and Milton. For this edition the great American artist Allan Rohan Crite was inspired to produce fifteen relief engravings for possibly the ultimate illustrated edition of the book of Revelations. Revelations passionately speak against the power of evil and encourage Christians to resist even at the cost of martyrdom. Many critics considers this to be Crite's finest religious work. One volume (16 x 22 inches) Relief engravings were printed on Japanese paper and mounted on heavy paper handmade in Pescia Italy. Volume is handbound in burgundy linen and the solander box covered in black Italian cotton. The inset is Nigerian goatskin and the title stamped in 22-karat gold. The book is in NF condition with a few slight marks visible on the…

The book is also signed and inscribed to Elizabeth Taylor Ellis, the grandaughter of J Will Taylor (Member of the House of Representatives from Tennessee 2nd district, serving from March 4th 1919 - Nove 14 1939). The inscription reads, "Oct 9 1988 To Elizabeth Taylor Ellis, granddaughter of J Will Taylor, A Tennessee statesman - Alex Haley". Signature was obtained during a meeting at the Appalachia Museum in Andersonville in 1988. ROOTS is a saga of dislocation and strength in the face of brutality, reckoning with the complexities of ancestry in the African diaspora caused by the transatlantic slave trade. "William Thomson, famous nineteenth century missionary, traveler, and author, described twenty-five years of surface study of Palestine as it relates to the Bible in his two-volume work, The Land and the Book. When he comes to describe Jerusalem he makes this remarkable statement; Do not set out...resolved to make discoveries. There is not a foot of ground that has not been already scrutinized by a thousand eyes as keen as yours, and the old adage, "If new not true," may be applied to Jerusalem and her monuments with more propriety than to any other place on earth...." - Introduction from Poet and Peasant: A…
