Book has library plate and library embossed stamp in front pages. For the first time, in 1963, an American team reached the top of Everest. They did it after weeks of exposure in the bitter cold air or Everest..after one of their group was crushed under a falling ice wall...and in the teeth of howling winds and snowstorms. Success came first on May 1, when two men gained the summit via the South Col route. This was followed three weeks later when four more men made the peak: two by the South Col route and two by the West Ridge. . Hard Cover. Very Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall.
