First edition hardcover, with dust jacket, published by Fordham University Press, 2006. The diary and memoir of Virginia D'Albert-Lake, who along with her husband Philippe, helped 67 British and American airmen escape to Spain during the occupation of France by the German armed forces during WWII. 270 pages, with Index, and a section of photos, 6-1/4" X 9-1/4". the dust jacket is intact, and has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Jacket has one 1/2" closed tear on the back panel at the bottom left edge. Quarter bound with brick red colored cloth covered spine. author and title on the spine in gold. Cover boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or worn, very little wear to the cover. No former ownership marks. There is a small erased pencil mark of a former price on the top corner of the front end paper. No further marks besides that erased pencil mark. Edges of the text block are clean. Sewn binding is tight and square. Not a remainder copy, not a library discard. The attached photos are of the copy we have in our inventory.
