About This Item
New York: The American Historical Society, Inc , No Date. Limited and Numbered Edition. Very Good. 9.5" x 12.25" x 2.5. LIMITED EDITION. #17 of 50 REGISTERED COPIES. This genealogical record of the prominent American families is a Limited Del Luxe edition. Bound in beautiful black leather with delightful tooling, as well as inner and outer dentelles. Spine is adorned with five raised bands decorated in tooled dots, gilt lettering, and a double-gilt frame bordering compartments. Minor professional repair at spine. All edges gilt. Pastedowns hold lovely, navy-blue watered silk doublures and endpages. Title page is hand-painted in multiple bright colors, and bears flourishing ornamentation, flag, eagle and coat of arms. Illustrated throughout with full page portrait, landscape and diagramed engravings, also including engravings of arms, crests and family mottos. Initials are hand-painted as well, along with headpieces engraved throughout. This edition is in "very good" condition, as it bears wear, rubbing and scratches to the entire cover and spine, as well as some scratching on all gilt edges. Approximately half of the headcap is missing. there is a disconnected scratch approximately 2" long on the cover. Bottom corners slightly bumped. Blue-ink-stamp on verso side of front endleaf reads "Edition De Luxe Limited to Fifty Numbered and Registered Volumes No 17". Leaves have fairly evenly toned, but reflect discoloration and some foxing, particularly around the edges. Some pages show evidence of dampstain, yet it has not compromised the integrity of the illustrations or text. Illustrations are guarded with tissue protectors throughout, which have also toned with age, yet remain crisp and without tears. Prominent American Families represented and recorded within this edition #17 include: Ainsworth, Alden, Andres, Angell, Anton, Ashley, Bailey, Ballard, Baring-Gould, Barse, Bartlett, Beardsley, Beecher, Bell, Blatz, Bowles, Bradford, Bradley, Brandel, Broder, Brodi, Broil, Brougham, Brown, Cady, Chamberlain, Chickering, Chickerin, Cogswell, Corn, Darragh, Davis, Dennison, Dimock, Douglas, Eams, Eddy, Ely, Epperson, (Apperson), Esselstyne, Fairbanks, Ford, Freeborn, Garrison, Gates, Gereadry, Greaves, Grossman, Gullickson, Hackley, Hackley, Hadley, Hamilton, Hanson, Harrison, Hart, Hastings, Hawkins, Hayes, Henley, herring, Hibbard, Hodgman, Holbrook, Hudson, Hunt, Jenckes, Johnson, Johnston, Karrow, Kearby, Kimmel, Kinney, Kletzsch, Kremer, Kreutzer, Lacock, Lathrop, Lathrop, Lindley, Linton, Little, Lowden, Lynds, (Lynde), McGrew, (McGrath), McKay, McKnight, McNaughton, Maddox, Madlener, Magruder, Manning, Maxwell, Melone, Metcalf, Miles, Minor, Montgall, Morrison, (Morison), Mullins, Newlin, Noble, Olcott, Otis, Paine, (Payne), Palm, Palmer, Parrish, Patton, Peabody, Pietsch, Post, Potter, Rathman, (Rathmann), Reno, (Regnaud), Reynolds, Roberts, Robinson, Ross, Schmidt, Sergent, Seward, Sexton, Sherman, Smith, Southworth, Spier, Sprague, Steele, Stellwagen, Sweet, Taylor, Tefft, Tonge, Treadwell, Uhrich, (Urick), Van Alstyne, Voss, Walderne, Walderne, Wayland, Weaver, Webber, Wells, Wickwire, (Wickware), Wiess, Winsor, (Windsor), Woodward.
