New York: Dell Publishing Co. Inc., 1966. First Printing, First Paperback Edition. . Mass Market Paperback. Fine to Very Fine. Vintage Paperback, Dell 0129; one of Mailer's best works -- a war hero/politician/professor explores the best and worst in himself and New York City, including murder; some age-tanning, apparently read once and shelved; wrappers show slight reading crease, minimal surface and edgewear. Synopsis

An American Dream is Norman Mailer's fourth novel, published by Dial Press. Mailer wrote it in serialized form for Esquire, consciously attempting to resurrect the methodology used by Charles Dickens and other earlier novelists, with Mailer writing each chapter against monthly deadlines. The book is written in a poetic style heavy with metaphor that creates unique and hypnotizing narrative and dialogue.
