Inscribed by the Author to title page, "To Allan Powell - A ticket to the circus - Wilton Eckley" together with typed letter dated 1987 on headed paper from Drake University (where the Author was professor of English) signed by his widow Grace Eckley, inserted loosely inside. The letter thanks Mr Powell for sharing his books, mentions "my novelist friend Benedict Kiely" amongst other literary marginalia. Book Condition: Near Fine. Jacket Condition: Very Good. Original black cloth in unclipped pictorial dust-jacket. Jacket lightly creased & rubbed to top edge with a little glue from a removed label at tail of spine. Scarce title covering the history of the circus and the principal artists and families involved including Barnum, Bailey and Ringling.
