R.H. Russell, New York:, 1904 11 unnumbered pages + 87 portraits. Large folio. 53 x 43 cm. 87 Wonderful photogravure portraits of many of the female social headliners of the era - including: Mrs. John Jacob Astor, Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt, Mrs. Payne Whitney, and many many others. The powerful photogravure photo prints were mainly by Rudolf Eickemeyer, Histed, and others. Original full cloth binding. Limited edition. Large folio. Rudolf Eickemeyer Jr. (1862-1932) was an American pictorialist photographer. He was one of the first Americans to be admitted to the Linked Ring, and his photographs won dozens of medals at exhibitions around the world in the 1890s and early 1900s. Ernest Walter Histed (18621947) was an English-American photographer born in Brighton. He went to United States and created a successful business in Chicago, and then in Pittsburgh. He returned to England to set up a studio first in New Bond Street and then in Baker Street, London. Then he returned to New York, and operated a studio on Fifth Avenue. He moved to Palm Beach, Florida and continued to work until 1934. The largest collection of his work is held by the Museum of the City of New York.
