About This Item

Post, Professor of Languages, Illinois College, Jacksonville (Vol. X, No. XIX, pp247-290); an article on "American Aborigines", titled "The Mosaic Account of the Unity of the Human Race, Confirmed by the Natural History of the American Aborigines", by Samuel Forry, MD, New York City (Vol X, No. XIX, pp 29 -80) in which Forry argues that the Indians couldn't be indigenous since all humans descended from the "original pair", and so had to be originally from Asia, Europe or Africa.

Early presentation inscription at ffep, "Presented to Geo. H. Emerson by Jack Chapin of Louisville, Ky. May 1 1849"; and early owner names "E. M. Pingree, Jan 15, '44"; and J. Milford Payson, Canton NY. Payson printed yellow bookplate for this book numbered 55 at the front paste down. Dr. James M. Payson was a founding faculty member of the State School of Agriculture at St. Lawrence University. Thick 8vo, marbled end papers. Three quarter brown leather and blue marbled boards, gilt title and date at spine. Boards a bit rubbed; a bit of very scattered fox spotting to early pages.
