About This Item
New York: The MacMillan Company, 1935. Third printing. Cloth. Fair. Wide clothbound octavo. 625 pp plus index. Collected and compiled by John A. Lomax and Alan Lomax with a foreword by George Lyman Kittredge. Third printing (February 1935). Early printing of this now famous compilation of American folk music by the Lomax father - son team. Alan Lomax was the first to record figues such as Leadbelly, Muddy Waters and Woody Guthrie. A fair to good copy only, with fairly heavy staining to the front cover. Binding is a bit threadbare, but still holds together well. What makes this copy unusual is that it has been INSCRIBED BY BOTH JOHN AND ALAN LOMAX with reference to Blowing Rock, a community in North Carolina. Inscription dated in 1940. Sold in as-is condition.
