About This Item
This antiquarian book is in fair condition. The front, back and spine of the cover boards are extremely worn as well as the edges on all sides of the cover boards and the bumping is so bad on the corner of the front cover board the corner is missing. The pages are yellowed and tanned, and there are no marking on the pages. The binding is cracked on the inside of the cover boards.
"The reader will comprehend at once this book was not desiqned as a Treasury of imperishable American poems. To make a rigidly eclectic volume would be a diversion, and sometimes I have thought to spend a few evenings in obtaining two thirds of it from pieces named in the critical essays to which the present exhibit is supplementary. In fact, more than one projector of a handbook upon the lines of Palgrave's little classic has adopted the plan suggested, and has paid a like compliment to the texts revised by the editors of "A Library of American Literature"...." - Introduction from An American Anthology: 1787-1900:
