[Nuremberg, GER]: Homann Heirs, 1746. Map [47 cm x 54 cm] / [18" x 21.5"] on a single sheet [49 cm x 56 cm] / [19.5" x 22"] Hand tinted borders. Nice condition. Early Americas map from the renowned Nuremberg family of cartographers. California is shown as a peninsula and the Northwest Passage is also shown. Attractive cartouche at the lower left. Johann Baptist Homann was a cartographer and publisher; he founded a printing press in 1702, which was the origin of the publishing house 'Homann Heirs'. After his death his son J.C.Homann continued the business, and after his death in 1730 the company was continued under the name 'Homann Heirs'.
