The purpose of the lectures which are the basis of this book was not to tell the story of the American-Russian relations, but to discuss aspects of those relations that bear upon American-Russian collaboration in the world community. The point of view presented is this book.

The previous owner was given this book as a gift in 1946 for Christmas. (See Photo)

First, the great revolution through which the world is now passing, has profoundly changed international relations and has made a world community possible and a world organization necessary.

Second, the heaviest responsibility for the organization of peace rests upon America and Russia; in fact, without the collaboration of these two countries the organization of peace is impossible.

Third, although Russia and America have never been at war with each other, collaboration has been and will be difficult.

Fourth, the very real differences which make our relations difficult can be overcome. The basic objectives of the two countries give the foundation, and the developments in science and technology furnish opportunities as well as the necessity for that collaboration.

The lectures were delivered while the Second World War was still going on.
