About This Item

NY: Rizzoli, 1991. 4to, "This well-illustrated catalogue features fine reproductions of 123 black-and-white photographs produced by celebrated American artist Evans (1903-1975) between 1928 and 1947, including twenty images from Let Us Now Praise Famous Men and numerous other documentary depictions of rural poverty, New York City street and subway scenes, Southern plantations, highway billboards and vernacular architecture. A substantial critical essay closely traces the artist's development, and a reprinted book review (1931) by Evans conveys his views concerning the proper role of photography.
