A dramatic, inspiring look at the second and later generations of women aviators who were equally determined and courageous but whose unique history is largely unknown. Beginning in 1942, with World War II raging on multiple fronts, the U.S. Army Air Force launcheda small, cautious experiment---it invited a handful of skilled women aviators to serve in its Ferrying Division, delivering military planes from factories to air bases all over the country. By war's end, more that a thousand women, led by famous avatrix Jacqueline Cochran, served and flew as well B-52s, and every aircraft in the Army Air Force. In the early 1960s, a handful of top female pilots wewre recruited by NASA to particpate in the "Women In Space" program; they never did make it into space but paved the way for today's women astronauts.
