A handsome first edition/first printing in unread Very Fine condition in Very Fine dust-jacket; This book tells the story of Walter Mosley, a black man who rose to become one of the most notorious gangsters in America during the 1930s and 1940s. Mosley was born in the Deep South in the early 1920s, and his early life was marked by poverty and discrimination. He began working as a porter at a hotel in Miami, and soon became involved in the criminal underworld. Mosley became a key member of the Miami Mafia, and in the early 1930s he started working as a hitman for the Chicago Outfit.
