About This Item

Tight spine. The text is unmarked but there are a few areas of very light soiling to the edges and a few pages. Gilt to spine remains bright. Mylar-protected jacket some edge-wear, areas of light soiling, and a 1 1/2-inch chip to the back, Author photo by Roger Conrad. A memorable bio to this jacket flap, describing the then–36-year-old Ellison as a 'myth-figure', referencing his notorious run-in with Frank Sinatra, and describing 'his dog, Ahbhu, and his goldfish, Morris H. Pollock . . . and [the] recently completed . . . script of his latest film titled, humbly, Harlan Ellison's Movie.' The jacket design includes fantastic art by Brad Johannsen, who also created the proto–Heavy Metal stoner monograph, Occupied Spaces, and the artist book, High Tide, which juxtaposes his psychedia with writings by Herman Hesse and Lao Tzu. 312 pp. Fiction.

Synopsis

Alone Against Tomorrow is a collection of short stories by author Harlan Ellison. Published in the United States in 1971, as a ten year retrospective of Ellison's short stories, it includes some of his most famous work. It was later published in the UK in two volumes as All the Sounds of Fear in 1973 and The Time of the Eye in 1974. All of the stories in this collection center around isolation and alienation, and were selected from previous short story collections to fit this theme.
