About This Item

Kent & Co. , (London) and R & M. H. Allen (Nottingham).. Good+ with no dust jacket. 1855. Presumed First UK Edition. Paperback. An Early Miniature book. In Yellow paper covers and lettered in gold (slightly dulled) . An attractive little book - Sized 3.4" x 2.1" (8.7 cm x 5.2 cm). 8 pages (25-28pp and 45-48pp) have the bottom BLANK edges CUT OFF, but with hardly any loss to the text, except for some slight close-trimming, particularly to the fore-edge of page 26, where the December dates (1 to 31) from 20 onwards have lost the first digit. The first part of the book is a straight forward Almanac, each page with a blank page for notes opposite (nothing written on any). From page 28 onwards there are pages of 'Useful Information' - similar to that in our current diaries. This includes a page for doing Cash Accounts, followed by Bankers in London, Post office Informations and Prices, Weather Table, Comparitive Nutrient of Food, Legal Information, Apprentices, etc, etc... Fascinating historical information. The covers are complete but 3 of the 4 corners of the covers are creased/curled and the rear cover has been split at the bottom of the spine (1 cm) - now re-glued neatly and is hardly noticable. Overall a clean, tidy example of an early miniature Almanac/Pocket book, but slightly at fault due to the cuts to a few blank sections of 8 pages as noted above. See Images. ; 64mo 3" - 4½" tall .
