London: Ernest Nister, nd [c. 1890]. No edition stated, but presumed first edition (hardback). 8vo, [48pp]. Illustrated throughout in b&w, plus a colour frontispiece. Original green cloth, colour illustration to the front board. Boards rubbed and scuffed, gift inscription (dated 1899), contents a little thumbed, staining to a couple of the pages. Overall, this copy is in good condition.

No date (c.1900). Ernest Nister. London. No date - circa1900. Tall slim annual format with green cloth spine and paper covered bpoards with delightful chromo-litho illustration to front cover. Illustrated half-title, delicately coloured-in, tipped in full colour chromo-litho frontis., illustration to title, b/w illustrations to every page plus four b/w plates and other full page drawings. Corners of boards very rubbed, rear panel worn and scratched, neat child's ownership inscriptions to patterned endpapers. Pages browned and nicked and chipped to margins with a few close tears. One central page lacks small piece at lower inner corner, not affecting the text or illustration, a few pages are loose otherwise a readable copy of an incredible anthology produced by the master.

Quarto, [28] pages, quarter red cloth, chromolithographed cover, presentation inscription to Tommy from Aunt Mary at Christmas [18]96; full-page inscription on the front pastedown in 1932, which explains its provenance; amateurishly resewn through the spine, with threads visible This was issued as Nister's book 636, A Novel Panorama Picture Book. As such it as 4 double-page chromolithographed pop-ups (which appear to be quite intact! ). The third pop-up is unatributed, but it appears likely that it was done by Louis Wain, who did other works for Nister: it shows dogs and cats frolicking at the seaside, with a monocled cat with top hat and cane - typical of Louis Wain. The introductory poem is by Fred. E. Weatherley. "The Good LIly" is by E. Nesbit. London: Raphael Tuck & Sons. Fair with no dust jacket. [c1906]. First Edition. Hardcover. Spine cloth torn along lower 5" of the front joint. Fraying to cloth at ends of spine. A 3" adhesive tape repair across lower end of spine. Edges of boards heavily rubbed with loss of paper along the edges and margins. Corners of boards heavily worn, rubbed, and rounded. The frontispiece illustration has a 4" tear with an adhesive sellotape repair on the reverse side. Also a 1 3/4" tear to the lower inner corner of the frontispiece, again with an old sellotape repair on the reverse side. The sellotape repairs to the frontispiece have caused adhesive tape staining to the paper of the frontispiece, and also to the neighbouring region of the front free endpaper. Cover is detached (but present and all in one piece) , signatures still held together so suitable for rebinding. Lacking front and rear end sheets. Title page and verso are neatly colored. Pages are toned with heavy thumbing, two pages with tears up to 2" but in good condition. Complete text and b&w illustrations with several color (single-color) plates. .

Illustraded through-out in Wain's iconic style, with 8 color plates and numerous black and white illustrations within the text. Gift inscription dated Xmas 1912. At the end of the nineteenth century, Louis Wain (1860-1939), the Edwardian cat artist, became a household name as an illustrator of cats, whom he depicted in all sorts of activities, from skating and playing cricket to driving motor cars, attending dances, and playing musical instruments.
