About This Item
Synopsis
Robert Stone is an American novelist. His work is typically characterized by psychological complexity, political concerns, and dark humor. The novel, Dog Soldiers , won the National Book Award for fiction in 1975. It is considered an action-thriller and a meditation on the manner in which the Vietnam experience permeated America. The story is set in the days of the Vietnam War, in Saigon. A journalist named John Converse is planning to find action and profit by getting involved in a considerable drug deal, smuggling 3 kilo’s of heroin into the States. Before long, his scheme fails and goes wrong, extremely, and terribly wrong. Stone attempts to, and succeeds in capturing perfectly the mood of America during the 1970’s with this elaborate and substantial novel.
