About This Item

London: Ward Lock & Co Ltd, 1927. No dustwrapper, minor wear to spine ends and corners of green boards, oval illustration on front board is missing (would have had a picture of Alice and the White Rabbit), old pencil scribblings on front endpaper where a child has written numbers against the figures in the picture, these have been rubbed out but the marks remain, unfortunately. Some minor foxing to page edges, binding just starting to give way at pp106-107 and to a lesser extent at pp174-75 and pp262-63. But otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover edition of "Alice" illustrated by Margaret W Tarrant. No publication date shown, but original owner's gift message dated 1927 on f/ep. "48 coloured plates" according to front board and title page, but only 44 listed and all present, possibly the coloured endpaper each count as two? Green boards with black titles and decoration to spine and to front board. 332pp plus 12pp adverts, 44 full-page colour illustrations, colour illustrated endpapers... Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Tarrant, Margaret W. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Synopsis

Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There , tell the story of a young girl in a fantasy world filled with peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The classic tale of literary nonsense takes the reader on an exploration of logic and absurdities. The Alice books — sometimes combined or referred to with the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland — have been translated into at least 97 languages with over a hundred different editions. The books have also been adapted numerous times into films (both live-action and cartoon), plays, and musicals.
