About This Item

Garden City, New York, U.S.A.: Garden City Publishing Co., Inc., 1930. First Thus . Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket. Jackson, A. E.; Federer, C. A.. The timeless classic brought to new life with the illustrations of A. E. Jackson (who did the decorative endpapers, frontispiece, & 7 interior full-page, full-color plates) & C. A. Federer (though attributed only on the spine, he has signed the front pastedown & is thought to have done the internal pen-and-ink drawings scattered throughout the text). All of the plates are virtually flawless: color vivid, margins white & no foxing or wear. Though undated, this edition is c. 1930, one of a series of classic children's stories reissued with new illustrations by Garden City Publishing. In 216 pages, the hardcover 8vo has bright orange cloth-covered boards with brilliantly colorful front paper pastedown & darker blue stamped lettering & design to spine. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally bright & clean with the occasional smudge; 1 creased page, unfolded. All pages are creamy white & unmarked save for old gift inscription dated 1933 to rear free endpaper & that young recipient's name & address to "This Is My Book Box" inside front cover. Binding strong & straight, hinges secure, but cracking to gutters at both front & rear free endpapers. Text block sturdy, stitching secure. Externally, there is modest rubbing to extremities & slight corner bumping, with light soil to outside page edges & back board, slight pushing to spine. A stunning copy! Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
