Fine hardcover with a touch of soiling to the bottom fore edge of the text block in a Near Fine dust jacket with light fading to the spine and parts of the back panel. A nice copy. The catalogue for "the most comprehensive" retrospective exhibition of work by Alfred Stieglitz. The exhibition was presented at the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., January 30 - May 1, 1983, and at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC, June 28 - September 11, 1983. Georgia O'Keeffe participated in the choosing of the images for the catalogue, which also features 56 of Stieglitz's largely unpublished writings on art and photography. A gorgeous book, printed by Meriden Gravure Co., beautifully bound in buckram, and with excellent reproductions on high-quality, "specially manufactured archival paper." Photographs and texts by Alfred Stieglitz; essay and introduction by Sarah Greenough; texts by Juan Hamilton. 248 pages; 73 full-page tri-toned b&w plates; 11 x 14.25 inches.
