About This Item

London: Macmillan And Co., 1872. Hardback. Very Good. New edition hardback, 1872, in contemporary full green leather binding, the spine with five raised bands and gilt titles. In overall very good used condition with only slight signs of age, handling and storage - boards a touch rubbed to corners but remain clean and crisp. Binding tight and appears almost unread. Internally clean, no annotation - gift inscription dated Eton 1893 to reverse of front endpaper and bookplate to front pastedown - no name but coat of arms and Latin motto ‘Cassis Tutissima Virtus’, possibly of the Cholmondley family, Cheshire; a little foxing to prelims but gilt page-ends retain lustre, text, map and illustrations bright and clear throughout. Retains the original maroon satin page-marker. A particularly handsome and well cared for copy. Photographs available. Not an old library book.

About Hall of Books

We sell secondhand books and sheet music online and offer an eclectic (perhaps eccentric!) selection ranging from modern first edition hardbacks and quality paperbacks to the interesting, unusual and rare; the hard-to-find, collectable and out-of-print....and a lot more in between! We do our best to describe and photograph our books and music accurately, and to package them securely when they sell. We do not rely on stock images. If you need more information on a particular item, or if we have not yet uploaded a photograph for a particular listing, please contact us and we will respond by return.
