Fantastically atmospheric cover design by Fred Marcellino, whose influential body of work includes the first editions of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale and Tom Wolfe's The Bonfire of the Vanities. According to Steven Heller, Marcellino 'challenged the strict marketing conventions . . . that required gigantic type for the author's name and a small, literal illustration of the plot or theme . . .
