About This Item

Discreet, tiny book label on front pastedown; fine in publisher's slipcase, very slightly marked; issued without dust jacket.. 8vo, 311pp; t.e.g.; black cloth, stamped in gilt on the spine. One of only 45 copies in the special limited edition, bound with a page of the original corrected typescript of the novel tipped in on a stub just prior to the title page. Mrs. Crane was a prominent supporter of the arts and literature, a co-founder of the Museum of Modern Art and hostess of a weekly literary and cultural salon in her Fifth Avenue apartment, where Prokosch was a frequent guest.
