London: Richard Bentley. Poor with no dust jacket. 1863. First Edition. Hardcover. First edition. Hard cover published by Richard Bentley in London in 1863. Green cloth covers with gilt design of a lion attacking a horseman on front and gilt lettering on spine. Front and back have embossed borders. Covers are stained, corners are bumped and worn, and spine is creased. Front cover and spine are only attached to back cover. First several pages have tears and holes (possibly insect damage) along side edge. Pages have spotting or foxing. Second page has a large water stain, and title page has some stains. Name of a previous owner is written at top of title page (has a date of 1885). Pages containing the list of illustrations and the folding map are loose. Pages have some tanning. Book is in acceptable condition. 451 pages plus ads for books in back, 2.6 lb.; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 451 pages .
