London: Walter Scott, Limited, 1898. Cloth. Very Good. FIRST EDITION. 8vo, pp. vii, [3], 248, [10 adverts]. Original red buckram, spine lettered in gilt. Rubbed and darkened, extremities bruised. Offsetting to endpapers, occasional grubby finger marks, else, clean and tight. A tidy copy of Ellis' essays on Nietzsche, Casanova, Zola, Huysmans and St. Francis ('and Others'). Very good Deemed a "representative modern critic", Ellis' collection was re-issued in 1915 by Constable in the UK and Houghton Mifflin in the US: "a recognition of its worth which it richly deserves" (The North American Review).
