The text is illustrated with copious colour photographs, colour and black-and-white illustrations and maps bright blue coloured textured cloth covered boards with silver coloured embossed titles to the front panel and back strip. Colour photographic dustwrapper with white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Colour photograph of author to the rear fold over panel. In this book the author intertwines his vivid first person narrative of underwater exploration with a concise history of humankind's age-old relationship with the oceans. Along with the giants of modern undersea exploration, the author introduces the fabled seamen of the past, from ancient Phoenician, Polynesian and Chinese sailors through to James Cook. Rubbing of the book corners with bumping of the lower book edges. Very, very light age toning of the text block edges.
