A second impression copy of this fascinating historical record of sailing ships, by the British naval officer and renowned author of numerous books on British naval history, Donald Macintyre. Tracing the development of sails, rigging and hull design, and retelling stories of maritime exploration and competition among many other things. This copy also features an introduction by the renowned boat designer and sailing enthusiast Uffa Fox. Featuring a tipped in bookplate of a 'Nigel Bassingthwaighte' to the front free-endpaper. Collated, complete with forty four coloured plates, and copious monochrome illustrations throughout. With a custom-made crushed morocco slipcase. In the publisher's original cloth binding with original unclipped dustwrapper and custom-made crushed morocco slipcase. Externally, lovely. Dustwrapper, lovely. Small section rubbing to rear joint of wrap. Tape repair to vero of wrap to head and tail of spine, not visible to recto. Slipcase slightly rubbed to extremities with slight loss and lifting to leather. Internally firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean throughout. Prior owner's bookplate tipped to front free-endpaper. Fine

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
