1878. First edition. No watermark. Folded ruled folio sheet. Signed by Geo Marston and Geo O Shattuck. 25,5x40(f20)cm. pp. [4]. Very Good. Barnstable ss: Sup. Fed Civil Bullen Lil.(?) vs. Butler Tried May Thir(?) 1878. I George Marston, on oath say that I was counsel for Joseph Butler, defendant in this above case. That there was no such thing or coll__rce between the parties in the case. Their attitude in respect to the ___erce was utterly hostile. I heard the evidence hoping to see ground of defense, but the testimony of Dr. Crocker as to injuries to the ___bellant was so strong as to leave no ground on which to stand, & I was compelled, in following any judgement & my service of duty to the courts, to surrender the defense. Geo Marston. Commonwealth of Massachusetts- Suffolk ss. July 20 1878 Subscribed & Sworn to before me - Geo O. Shattuck Justice of the Peace. Marston studied law at Cambridge 1844 and was admitted to bar the following year practicing in New Bedford and Barnstable. He served as Register and Judge of Probate in the later and was elected Attorney General three years in a row 1879-81. James B. Crocker, office of trial justice in Yarmouth 1858-1884 and Dr. Crocker is mentioned in (Deyo, 1890 Medical & Whittemore, Law)..
