Translated from the French by David Glixon.The story is as old as literature. The ancient Greeks celebrated each spring nature's decay and revival symbolized in the death and rebirth of Adonis, the handsome youth, the lover of gAphrodite, who was killed by a boar and condemned by the gods to spend half of each year in Hades and half with his mistress. This very handsome book is illustrated with six lithographs by the distinguished Dutch artist Ru van Rossem. paste-downs and end papers are nicely decorated. Book is near fine with slight wear to tips and extremities. The priced (15s.net) is good with repaired closed tears and 11/2" loss at spine bottom. The colored lithographs are very nice
