Centenary collection of the works of legendary Polish national poet and patriot Adam Mickiewicz (1798-1855), edited and with an introduction by Stanislaw Helsztynski. A wealth of prose and poetry works by Mickiewicz, including a synopsis with substantial chapters from "Master Thaddeus," plus an informative collection of commentaries on Mickiewicz by a number of his contemporaries. Illustrated with thirteen full-page b&w plates, among them a portrait of Mickiewicz commissioned by Goethe, a portrait of Celina Mickiewicz, the poet’s wife, the monument to the Polish legion in Rome, and the monument to Mickiewicz in Paris. Text in English. Very Good, decorative embossed gray cloth, gilt titles. Clean, crisp, sharp, no ownership signatures or any other markings of any kind.
