Printed by George Eyre and Andrew Strahan, London, 1814. First Edition. Softcover. Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Anno Quinquagesimo Quarto, Georgii III Regis, Cap. CIV: An Act for maintaining and keeping in Repair certain Roads and Bridges made in Scotland, for the Purpose of Military Communication; and for making more effectual Provision for maintaining and repairing Roads made. and Bridges built, in Scotland under the Authority of the Parliamentary Commissioners for Highland Roads and Bridges (18th July 1814). An 1814 printing of this act, bound with a single stitch, no covers. The Act provides for: Appointment of Commissioners for this Act; Commissioners may appoint Officers; What Proportion of the Expense of repairing Roads and bridges to be Paid by the Public, and by what respective Counties; Commissioners to advance Money for the immediate Repair of the Roads and Bridges; Manner in which Military Roads may be maintained under this Act; How Boating Piers and Bridges shall be kept in Repair; Provision as to Bridges situated in Two Counties; Line of Road not to be Altered; A Sum not Exceeding 5,000l for the present Year and 2,500 for every subsequent Year to be issued to the Commissioners towards the Repair of Roads and Bridges; Commissioners of Supply shall assess for tyhe Purposes of this Act; Commissioners of Supply may appoint Officers; Application of Tolls, and Conversions for Statute Labour; Lord Advocate to instigate Process against Commissioners of Supply, if they faile to assess the County; Assessment How to be levied; Penalty on Collector neglecting to levy Assessment; Assessment when levied how to be disposed of. Collector may retain Allowance for his Trouble; For making Assessments in the Country of Argyll; Assessment not to be levied in the County of Bute, except in the Island of Arran; Monies received by virtue of Assessment to be accounted for; Commissioners to make Rules and Regulations; Commissioners to report annually to Parliament; Where Expenditure out of the Imprest Monies shall exceed the sum beofre-mentioned, an Account to be transmitted to the Treasury; Inspector may dig Gravel etc in private Grounds; Penalty on Persons injuring or obstructiong Roads; Penalty on Persons driving against Parapets etc; Continuance of Act Sound stitched binding, clean pages, untrimmed edges.
