Small smudge to first page of Mr. Stewart's Foreword. Housed in plain, grey, dustjacket. Folding map laid in.

Written down forty-four years from when as a 12-year old survivor of the Donner Party, Virginia Elizabeth Backenstoe Reed (later) Murphy recounted her tale mostly from memory, but consulted for details - sometimes inaccurately -- the text of McGlashan's 1879 account.
