Bibliotheca Austaliana #64. Russian Major-General Sarychew was surveyor of the Billing Expedition of 1785 in Alaska and the Aleutians. In the preface he states: "During the eight years of our absence I had made it my daily practice to note down in my journal every thing that appeared to me worthy of observation, without any intention, however remote, of committing my remarks to the press. Facsimile reprint of 1806 London edition .
