About This Item
Marjorie Bull. Abraham de Smidt was a topographical draughtsman and many of his South African landscapes reflect his journeys around the country as a surveyor. He was renowned for his landscape painting (he was a pupil of Thomas Bowler) and active in the fine arts exhibitions in the mid-1800s. Included is a catalogue of paintings of which 26 are reproduced in colour and 30 in black and white. There are a further 47 illustrations in black and white. Toning and foxing to the front prelims. Some cocking to the lower page edges. Some scattered foxing. 164 Pages. Binding tight. 1st Edition. Condition: Good-. Dust jacket: Good. Some light edge-wear. Foxing on the verso. Mild cocking on the front cover. Binding: Hardcover. Black boards with gilt lettering on spine. Indentation on the front board caused by damp. Tide-mark on the fixed end paper.
