About This Item
London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1909. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Blue diamond-patterned cloth with gilt lettering and elaborate gilt spine decorations. xix, 395pp. Color frontispiece. Good plus. Mild edgewear and corner bumping, with front and rear flyleaves rather darkened; rear inner hinge expertly, archivally strengthened, thus tight. A tight and decent later printing of this 1882 biography hugely different from his 1863 biography of nearly the same title (Monaghan 249). MONAGHAN 990 note.
